WATERTOWN – Claire Killian’s 18 points led the Royals to a 59-44 win over the visiting Dassel-Cokato Chargers Tuesday night. It was fourth win in a row for the Royals who improved to 7-0 in the Wright County Conference West.

After a slow start, the Royals used an 11-0 run to take an early 11-4 lead. As both teams struggled to get things going offensively, it was posts that set the pace of the game. Watertown-Mayer’s Monika Czinano and Dassel-Cokato’s Alyana Johnson battled it out in the paint against each other, as the Royals took a 33-27 lead into the locker room at the half.

Czinano and Johnson continued their battle in the second half. The two combined for 37 points (21 for Johnson and 16 for Czinano). With the Royals looking to extend their lead, a pair of 3-pointers by Killian and Emma Ragner gave the Royals their biggest lead at 49-37 with just over eight minutes to go.

Despite poor free throw shooting at the line (38 percent), the Royals were able to hold on down the stretch.

The Royals are back in action Friday, Jan. 27 when they host New London-Spicer in another big conference matchup.
