The Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association released the names on the 2019-2020 All-State teams this past week ahead of the girls state tournament.
There were four area players recognized by the MGBCA. In Class A, Mayer Lutheran had two players recognized as All-State Honorable Mention. Lexi Schermann and Morgan Chmielewski both earned that honor for the Crusaders. Also in Class A, Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity’s Marissa Radtke was named All-State Honorable Mention. In Class AA, Watertown-Mayer’s Maggie Czinano was named All-State.
The following is a look at the season each of the four award winners had.
Morgan Chmielewski (Mayer Lutheran)
The Crusaders needed some leadership in their backcourt this season, and junior Morgan Chmielewski delivered. Having her best season of her high school career, Chmielewski was named All-State Honorable Mention for her impressive season.
Chmielewski averaged 11.9 points per game while shooting 48.3 percent from the floor. She also averaged 4.6 assists per game, and had 45 steals, helping the Crusaders to a 23-win season.
Lexi Schermann (Mayer Lutheran)
Another big player for the Crusaders in the backcourt was senior Lexi Schermann. One of the top shooters and defenders on the team, Schermann was named All-State Honorable Mention for her impressive season.
On the year, Schermann averaged 10.6 points per game while shooting 36 percent from the field. She was second on the team in made 3-pointers (25), while dishing out 74 assists, and collecting 129 rebounds.
Schermann will continue her basketball career at Gustavus Adolphus College next year.
Marissa Radtke (LP/HT)
It was another big season for the LP/HT’s Marissa Radtke. The junior guard helped lead the Bulldogs to the Section 4A semifinals, and was named All-State Honorable Mention for her season.
Radtke averaged 21 points per game this season for the Bulldogs. She shot 46.3 percent from the field, and led the team in 3-pointers made (36), assists (100), and steals (75). Radtke also reached the 1,000 career point milestone this season.
Maggie Czinano (Watertown-Mayer)
It was a season to remember for Watertown-Mayer’s Maggie Czinano. Not only did she help lead her team to the Section 5AA title game, she was also named to the Class AA All-State team.
Czinano had a monster season for the Royals in her junior year. She averaged more than 20 points per game this season. She also was among the team leaders in rebounds, assists, and steals.
Czinano also verbally committed to continue her basketball career at the University of Minnesota this year.
