ST. PAUL – There’s no doubt that there is an abundance of talented volleyball players in the area. That’s proven by four area volleyball players being named to the All-State teams this past week as part of the Minnesota State High School state tournament.
Mayer Lutheran had three players named to the Class A All-State First Team, while Watertown-Mayer junior Paige Thibault was named Class AA All-State Honorable Mention. Thibault helped lead the Royals to a third-straight state tournament appearance this season.
Mayer Lutheran (Olivia Tjernagel, Claudia Stahlke, and Lilly Wachholz) was the only team in Class A with three All-State selections to the First Team. Tjernagel was also the lone Ms. Baden Finalist for Class A players.
All four area players were honored at the Minnesota State High School League banquet before the state tournament this past weekend.
