RICHFIELD – For a moment, it looked like the top-seeded Watertown-Mayer volleyball team was overwhelmed by #2 Totino-Grace in the Section 5AA tournament Saturday at Holy Angels.
The Royals had a number of unforced errors in the first set of the match, falling behind 23-12.
However, W-M rallied to win eight out of the next nine points before losing 25-20. And that momentum carried them through the next three sets, as they won all three to take a 20-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 victory to advance to the Class AA state tournament.
The Royals will play Thursday in the first round of the Class AA state tournament at the Xcel Energy Center. Keep an eye on this blog for up-to-date information, and check out Friday’s Herald Journal for a full recap of the section final game.
