HOWARD LAKE – In their first North Star League game of the season, the Howard Lake Orphans were in control from the start. The Orphans used four different pitchers as they held the Stingers’ bats in control all game long in a 10-0 victory Sunday evening at Memorial Park.
Jared Koch got the start on the mound, and gave the Orphans four strong innings. He allowed just two hits, while retiring the first eight batters of the game he faced.

Howard Lake’s Jared Koch got the Orphans off to a great start in their first North Star League game of the season. Koch retired the first eight batters he faced and pitched four strong innings for the Orphans in their 10-0 victory.
After a slow start offensively in which the Orphans stranded four runners on base in the first three innings, the Orphans took advantage of a costly error by the Stingers to get things rolling. Zach Kuefler drew a leadoff walk to get things started, and Mitch Baumann kept it rolling with a perfect bunt that he was able to beat out of an infield single.
After a fielder’s choice put runners on second and third with one out, it looked as if the Orphans were going to leave more runners on base. Instead, the Orphans broke through, scoring two runs a throwing error. Following the error, Matt Streich delivered with a clutch two-out hit to bring in two more runs, and just like that, the Orphans had a 4-0 lead.
