LESTER PRAIRIE – Senior Gavin Bates and the visiting Sibley East Wolverines were too much to handle for the Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity Bulldogs in their season opener Tuesday night. Bates scored 18 of his game-high 29 points in the second half as the Wolverines moved to 2-0 on the season.
The Bulldogs went cold from the field in the second half, finishing the game 9-for-41 from 3-point range. Michael Ziermann led the way with 16 points while going 7-for-12 from the FT line. Parker Bayerl and Nathaniel Hausladen each added eight points.

HOWARD LAKE – CJ Decker’s 21 points wasn’t enough as the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted girls basketball came up just short against the highly-touted Cardinals. After a time game at the half, the Cardinals pulled away in the second half.
Courtney Long added 13 points, while Alexa Schumann added 10 for the Lakers.

VICTORIA – A strong start didn’t hold up as the Watertown-Mayer girls basketball team fell short to conference foe Holy Family Tuesday night. The Royals had a 14-point lead at the break, but were unable to hold off the Fire in the second half.
The Royals managed just 10 points in the second half, as the Fire got hot down the stretch to come away with the win. Monika Czinano continued her strong start to the season with 21 points. Grace Knutson added seven points for the Royals.
